Lavender in Provence

The lavender fields in Provence inspire people all over the world. Lavender in Provence has its own quality label: AOC Lavande de Haute-Provence. In order to qualify for the label, each batch of essential oil has to be produced in the tradicional manner, within a specific geographical zone, quality criteria.

Lavender Numbers:
  • Workforce: 2000 producers, ca 25000 related jobs
  • Surface areas: 15000 hectares of lavandin, 5000 hectares of lavender
  • 120 distilleries, 30 open to visitors
  • Essential oil production: 1000 ton of lavandin, 90 ton of lavender

Visiting farms and distilleries
  • Distillerie du Siron: old-fashioned distillery. Direct sale all year. 23 July to 26 August, Tuesday, Thursday and weekends: 10am-noon and 2pm-5pm. Quartier le Gazon - 04380 THOARD
  • Distillerie GAEC 4 Vallées: distillery and farm, lavender, aromatic and medicinal plants, organic approved. Direct sale. From July to September, every day. 26150 CHAMALOC
  • Distillerie Les Pusteaux: grower and distiller of organic lavender, direct sale. From 15 July to 31 August, every day. Les Pusteaux - 05140 LA-FAURIE
